new to the forum here and fairly new to chevy's , i have a 88 4x4 shortbed with a 305 , over all this thing has 199,+++ miles on it ,the thing runs great but started to smoke a good bit and developed a valve/rocker noise , i want to fix this on a budget and build up my first sbc , now i been hearing that not all small blocks are the same from year to year ,sothing about the way the headsbolt on the older blocks and the center bolt valve covers ect.... ,im trying to find truth in thisfor i want to build up a block while i still drive my truck, so any help on what block i can use to start this build and still bolt on all the stuff thats on my engine now , thanx in advance
