'88 silverado info needed
Hi there,
I have just purchased an '88 Silverado C1500 with a 350 TBI automatic. How can I find out what kind of tranny I have? I need to change the oil and filter and all that and the tranny code would be nice to know. Also, have many people here converted their trucks from TBI to a direct port injection? my engine is a little tired but in the future I was thinking of maybe putting in a better engine with some kind of aftermarket injection. And lastly, did all these trucks come with an alum. driveshaft stock?, mine has one.

i have an 89 so i believe you would have a 700r4. your vin number can tell you but you would have to go to a dealer and ask. unless if you bought it 2nd hand and someone has changed it along the way. also crawl under the truck and look for the number on it. my truck has a plain steel driv shaft. for an aftermky injection kit i think you would have to go with holley or accel, but there a little pricey.
The TBI sysetm is actually pretty relaible and pretty good, if this is a daily driver the change is not really neccesary, If your building a showtruck, then go ahead and spend the moeny. Your shift indicator on the your daswh now.... does it have a D with a circle around it, then another D, then 1, 2, 3? If so you have the 700r4 AOD tranny. If you ave anything else let me know and I will look it up for you. A picture of your tranny pan would help the most.
sounds like I might have 700r4, it has OD, D, 2, 1. At the back of the tranny pan it just goes under the crossmember, do you need to remove that to get the pan off? - i am assuming the filter is accessed from the pan.
Thanks for the info
