95 Sliverado- Clunks when turning, stoping
I have a 95 chev Silverado Z71 package (175K miles). Own for over 13 years. Have an intermittent issue with what I believe to be transmission, but seeking advice.
When taking turns, slowing down to stop and take off, I hear a Clunking noise. Almost like a shaft is popping in/out, or side to side. Has not seem to impact the drivability, but I must admit been happening for years and no one seems to understand what /why this is occurring.
Any suggestions as had the transmission serviced (rebuilt at 85K miles), and routinely maintain the truck, as love this baby!

welcome partner,
have you pinpointed it to the tranny area?i had a similar problem almost sounds just like what your hearing...mine turned out to be the limited slip in the rear was taking a shift in the wrong direction....just a thought...have you been through most of the truck?

yes, had it checked out by several people/professionals. A quick note; the clunck seems to be repeatable when at 15-10 miles per hr, slowing down. Very notcieable when shifting from Park/Drive quickly- seems from rear end driave shaft area. No ablity to lub, as still OEM. Monday some lube joints will be added to shaft- let's sess what happens.

I seem to remember my Service Manager dealing with this by lubing the driveshaft splines with a special GM grease. I remember it was expensive but it didn't take much.
For us, it was really noticeable when coming from a stop and lightly applying some gas, you'd get a thunk.
