Default 97 cheyenne c2500 no reverse

My neighbors got his truck for sale and said it was slipping,then nothing.Claims someone told him its reverse gear(200 bucks to fix) Hes young so I thought id sign on here and do some diggin.Maybe a solonoid?Any thought would be appreciated. Fluids are up.Not sure what motor/tranny yet.Thanks

I can't remember what they called but it's something like the sun shell in the transmission that goes out and chunks reverse, second and fourth or something like that. That could possibly be the problem. If it is, then it requires a rebuild or replacement. Just check and see if it has all the forward gears.

I had a 89 chevy with a 700r4, reverse went out the forward gears soon followed, decided to swap it for a th400, same thing again. reverse started slipping horribly then went out, forward gears soon followed. for me, it was a definite rebuild for either 1.
