Default 97 radio

hi to all
just picked up a radio/cassette player from the boneyard ($20)
it was from a 97 suburban
plugged right in and sounds great (don't plan to use the cassette)
this will replace the factory radio on my 95 z-71
i plan on getting the ipod adapter from icarkits that will plug into the cd changer plug (got that idea from this forum)thanks for that!
my question is
the upper **** does on/off and volume
there is anlarger **** around that labeled SCV at the bottom and 3 positions marked only by dots above that
this larger **** doesn't seem to do anything
anyone with a 1997 owners manual or experience with this model that can fill me in on this function?
thanks

Speed Control Volume (SCV)

The AM/FM stereo with Integral Cassette Tape Player (UM) features Speed Control Volume (SCV).

The volume level automatically adjusts to compensate for road and wind noise as you drive.

In order to use the SCV, adjust the volume to the listening level you want at any time.

As you drive, the volume will change in order to match the noise present at any particular speed.

The volume should always sound the same level to you as you drive.

Each detent on the SCV allows a little more compensation at a faster rate.
