Default 98 C1500 5.0L: Setting timing after moving Distributor

My 98 C1500 was running good before my brother and I replaced the intake manifold gaskets. Well, one of us must have accidentally moved the distributor and now the timing's off. We've tried slightly turning the distributor either way but it's not helping. I've since read that you cannot adjust the timing this way because it's computer controlled. FWIW, we were getting two codes that had to do with incorrect timing, but we weren't getting the P1345 code for incorrectly installed distributor. Is there a way to get the timing correct without having a $$$ scan tool or taking it to a shop? Thanks, guys.

Make sure the #1 cyl is at TDC compression. The rotor should be pointing to the #1 plug wire on the cap. This will get you started. Then I think you'll need a tech with a scanner to finish up.

Tried that but she's still running rough. I've read that you need to perform some sort of reset/relearn but right now I forget exactly what it's called and for what part. I took it over to the local shop and we'll see what happens. Thanks.

when you replace the intake gaskets on a chevy vortec engine you have to reindex the distributer.inside the distributer housing there are index marks.one side will have 8cylinder and the other will be 6 cylinder.bring your engine to top dead center.pull the distributer out and realign the rotor to the 8 cylinder index mark.then tighten down your distributer.
