Default 98 k1500 misfire, multiple problems

its a 98 k1500. 4x4. giant lift kit. 18 of suspension and 3 body. motor is fresh rebuilt vortec 350, original to truck. stock manifolds. dual exhaust to flowmasters out back, no cats. o2 sensors welded right into pipes. egr valve was junk, so i taped the holes off. new dist cap, rotor, and wires, and plugs. all new. nothing new in fuel system to my knowledge. it will not reach temp. bogging it, in hot weather itll goto 160 MAYBE, if im lucky. stock mechanical fan. it misses from 500 to 2000 rpms, and from 5000 to 7500 or so. its a roller motor, thats why itll turn those rpms. it misfires bad especially after 10 minutes of running. real bad, will stall at stopsigns. now it seems to not charge and the battery went dead for some reason after the bog today. im beginning to get deterred, this thing has been a night mare. on a scan tool, it said 4/7 misfire, im thinking about setting the damn truck onfire at this point. any help would be great, i love it, just hate these unending problems. thanks to all.

Tape will not stop exhaust and vac from leaking out of the holes. The computer is designed to have EGR to run properly. You really need to put EGR back on before we can help you because it can not be eliminated as the cause of the problem. Also you will need to get the battery/charging system up to par.

ok. the egr is super expensive, and is part of my problem. a used egr with 300,000 miles helped. why does it not warm up tho? what could cause that.? im very intersted in fixing it, im just so pissed.

i am not sure man. i didnt own it before, and previous owner is very sketchy. i dont know wether it was before or not. how do i check my alternator? i believe that may be the colprate. however, now that i think, it looks new. the batt does also. no dates on either tho. got a egr valve today, will install tomorro am, then post up. is there anyone in michigan that would be willing to tackle this? its beginning to be an upset. both exhausts have 2 o2 sensors each, right up close to the manifold then way back.

If the alternator has a blown diode plate, the alternator will discharge the battery while the engine isn't running. Try disconnecting the battery when you're not running the truck. If the problem seems to go away when you do that, the diode plate in the alternator is bad.

The good news is most parts stores carry rebuilt alternators that are reliable and cheap.

I agree with MDTAHOE's post.

it has discharged it. i charged it to 13.8 or 14.4 volts, it sat, got driven ( driving would charge if anything, not kill it if alts good) so im thinking alt is junk or bad connection. i will check tomorrow am, and put a used (proven good) egr valve on.
