Default 99 Silverado 5.3 4x4 no reverse?

I'm a woman so bear with me while I describe what happened. Driving down the road and I felt a hiccup then smelled a weird smell. Couldn't think of what it could be at the time. Pulled over and checked under the hood, no smoke and didn't see any fluids or anything leaking. Back on the highway and it hiccuped again only more pronounced this time, then it wouldn't shift into overdrive. I drove it straight home with no overdrive so didn't get over 65. Parked it and two days later was going to drive it to a friends so he could ride with me to see what he thought it could be and it now has no REVERSE. I added tranny fluid, but still nothing. It sounds like it is going into reverse but won't move. I have all the forward gears.

Any ideas where to start? Someone said something about a shift solenoid. Would this cause this issue? Thank you for your help.

I dont know. Can't get it in reverse to back out of the driveway. We live in the country and I can't push it on my own. So I haven't driven it since I posted this question.

I didn't smell the fluid up close but it was kind of a brown color, not the color that came out of the bottle when I was adding new.
