![Question](https://chevroletforum.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi everyone,
I have a 1999 Silverado 4X4 Z71 5.3 litre. Sometimes, and I don't know what triggers it, the truck won't start. When I try again right away, it doesn't start, but if I leave it alone for 5 or 10 minutes, it usually starts up fine. I read something about an anti-theft device (passlock, I think) that shuts down the electronic ignition, and I am tending towards that as the problem... but I don't know
. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem? I've been late for work once because of it
and don't want to be late again. Any help is appreciated.![Smile](https://chevroletforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Also, if more clarification is needed, I'll be happy to provide what I can.
Thanks in advance.

Is the security light flashing while this occurs. If so it will start after exactly 10 min. You need to take it to the dealer for pinpoint testing . Most likely the lock cylinder need to be replaced however there are other components in the system that can fail. This will require special equipment to do the testing and the repair may require computer programming.

Thank you for your answer, MDTAHOE.The security light wasn't flashing, so I'm guessing the solution you offered doesn't apply. However, I am still interested in possible or likely causes which I will then eliminate, one by one, until the problem in discovered and fixed. If you have any other ideas, I will certainly consider them. Unfortunately, taking my truck to a dealer is out of the question; it's far too expensive for my budget.

Ask around and try to find a good, reasonable engine mechanic. Your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors are a good source of information and may recommend someone. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising for a small businessman.
