99 silverado transfer case

Default 99 silverado transfer case

i just bought a 1999 silverado extended cab woth 208,000 mile and i have to replace the transfer case. i know that they are a dime a dozen what i am wondering is how long do the transfer cases last on average? (milage wise)

It really depends on how often the truck was run in 4WD. If only once in a while there is a good chance the transfer case will last the life of the truck. Unless it was abused while in 4WD, you should have no problem getting 200K out of the next one.

Keeping good Fluid in them, is the key.
If you use 4w often, I'd say change the Fluid out every 25-30K.
Also, I'm thinking you may be under-valuing the cost of replacement.
I've seen $800-$1000.
