Hey i just joined here because i need some help and adive from yall. I've been looking around and you all seem to be well-seasoned experts on trucks.

Alright so heres the story if you care to know: Alright so im almost 15 years old, and my dad and i have been discussing what kind of car for me to get. Hes always owned trucks and i plan on doing the same. He is very experienced with lifted trucks and jeeps and knows how some people do a cheap job when they do so, so he is pretty much against me purchasing a lifted truck. Anyways i need yall (if your willing to help) to help me look at jeeps and trucks to help decide which to pick. I have $7000-7500 to spend so i hope that is enough to buy a nice lifted truck/jeep. There is more to buying a vehicle that some pictures and a brief description.
I have owned 15 vehicles and 6 motorcycles. Sometimes things sound perfect from the
Owners description, but when you go to look at it or drive it you find out things they neglect to say.
Purchasing vehicles takes time and you really need to go see them in person to say 1 is better than
The other.
And just keep in mind, just because it is your 1st vehicle doesn't mean it HAS to be the exact truck
You have been wanting for years. FWIW, It took me 7 years to find the exact truck I wanted for the right price.

Oh and BTW, dodge/chrysler/Jeeps have a huge transmission issue. Expect to be purchasing a new
Tranny or having to rebuild it about every 130,000 miles. You will notice gears starting to slip at about
120,000 miles.
And Fords have lots of random problems with seemingly no fix every since the 90's when they started
Using all of their integrated electronics.

I would rather get a GMC or Chevy and deal with a possible minor electrical issue rather than getting a
New transmission every few years, or spending money on dozens of labor hours trying to get a ford
Issue sorted out.

Thanks for a constructive response. I am in no hurry to get anything b/c it will be February until i get my permit, let alone a license.

 

What are you intending to do with it? I guess since it will be your first vehicle, and I'm assuming it will be a daily driver, I wouldn't go with most of those options with huge lifts and big ol' tires. I've only driven a handful of lifted vehicles, but every one has just seemed worn out, with indirect steering and harder to control on the highway. A mild lift would probably be fine, however.

 

I dont agree. Almost all cars develop tranny problems at 120-130K. Never seen one go past 170K in the best of times. Thats a lot of up/downshifting over the years. I used to work with Ford and the only problems I ever noticed with the trucks were due to owner neglect(especially in the Lincolns). Dodge/Jeeps were easy to fix and basically rudimentary workhorses. They didnt give me a bad impression.

I think you should start in a lower price range for your age like $2000-4000. Get an older truck to learn about cars yourself and then when you go off to college or trade school you can get yourself the 7 grand jobby.

 

id start off finding a cheap truck that needs some work and then spend the money you have left of fixing it, itlll give you an appreciation for it and make you want to take care of it more, and besides, working on vehicles is so much fun
