Alternator pulley gets hot!

Have 83 silverado that was given to me. Has rebuilt 350 with less than 1000 miles on motor. Original motor was a 305. After driving just a few minutes the alternator pulley is so hot you can't even touch without burning yourself. Also makes noise like the belt is squealing. I'm a rookie at older trucks and could use any help possible. Thanks!
