Hey guys, this has been a great thread. I'm ready to go out and convert to Amsoil right now. 167,000 miles on my truck and many more to go.
First question, what do you guys recommend for engine flush? I have a ticking hydraulic lifter that might clear up if I can clean it out. It leaks down when the engine sits for a few hours. When starting cold it will tick for a minute and then clears up.
Second, have any of you installed the Amsoil remote bypass filter?
Thanks

Also using the 0w-30 "Signature Series" (the 25k oil) will get the oil up in the engine quicker on cold starts, hopefully helping your ticking noise.
I have not used the bypass filter myself, but know someone that has one on their 1996 Dodge truck (5.2 liter v-8 gas motor) here locally and they NEVER change the oil, only the filter and send the oil out for testing. Oil is over 150k old and still going strong. Its pretty impressive, but I have just never been ambitious enough to go out and put one on my truck. For extreme high mileage drivers it would be great.
Also something that is on my to do list is switch my tranny fluid. Most vehicles will see the tranny temp drop 10-15 degrees by using AMSOIL in the tranny, and since heat is what cuts a tranny's life short....this keeps you out of the tranny shop for years.
Welcome tothe AMSOIL club, once you use it you will never go back to dino oil....

HEY I forgot to mention the ritual I do when changing my oil. As I'm adding my oil, I pick up a hand full of dirt and put it in the engine too. It helps quieten the engine too!

they told Columbus the world was flat....
they told the Wright Brothers that men couldn't fly....
and they told you your oil HAD to be changed every 3000 miles....
