Default Antifreeze Smell

I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3L V8. It has roughly 82,000 miles on it. When I start it up in the morning or after it has been sitting awhile it has an antifreeze odor that comes through the vents for about 10-20 seconds. It then goes away and you can't smell it again until you start it again the next door or after its sits for a long time. I'm going to start paying a little closer to if it does it when its warm or when its cold but wanted to see if I could get some ideas of what would be causing this. Any help would be great.

thanks!

Forgot to mention I did check the antifreeze levels and they are good and has not been using or leaking any antifreeze.

bswchevy05, are you looking to perform the fixes yourself or would you be willing to let the dealership take a look at the vehicle and get some input on the issue?

Sounds like a heater core to me. I'm guessing it just isn't bad enough to cause much fluid loss and is just starting. Try running your heater on full for a bit and see if the smell sticks around longer. It could also be a tiny drip on your block and dissappears as the engine warms up. For this run it till it warms up and look under the front of the engine where the water pump is. If the water pump bearing is going out it leaks a tiny bit out a hole in the bottom.
