Default Anyone else playing "dash slap"?

Every trip I make in the 89 Cheyenne requires a dash slap, at some point, to reactivate the speedometer. When it kicks off, the speed sensor is effected as well.
Anyone else get to do this?

I find it funny because it isn't at start up, I will be driving and suddenly I hear a change, look down, and no speedo. Then I slap until it comes on again and the rpms kick back down.

All other gauges work as they should. Heck, even my fuel gauge doesn't have the GM curse... weird!

I don't play the dash slap game but I have to do dimmer wheel presses in my 04 Silverado when driving at night. All of a sudden while driving all of my back lighting will slowly fad out or just go from on to off but applying a little pressure on the dimmer wheel brings the lights back up.

the damp weather has definitely played with my issue. in the morning after a damp, rainy night i have to slap the dash often to keep the speedo working. in the afternoon after it has warmed some and dried out, i have no issues.

if it didn't kick the transmission down, i wouldn't care.

How much of a pain is it to remove this gauge assembly to fix the loose wiring? It is starting to become more frequent.
