Unhappy Bad ball joints

My mac told me that my upper and lower ball joints need to be replaced. He said that the upper are not servisable and needs the hole control arms. The truck is a 2008 4x4 1500 Max addition with about 100000 miles. The cost is going to be with alinement about 1400. Does this seem right, did chevy have a recall on a ball joint problem?

Generally ball joints can go a lot longer than 100k. Unless the boot rips and the grease comes out they are usually fine. Now if you have any mechanical skills and can do the work yourself you can save about 900 if you order the parts yourself and install them then go get an alignment. He is right that they aren't serviceable though. Gm stopped puttin in ball joints you can press out for some reason

$1400.00 seems very high to me. Parts and alignment should be between $400 to $500. That leaves $900 to $1000 for labor. Unacceptable!!
