Default Battery or Alternator or something else ???

yesterday my battery light was flashing every so often .. but the truck was performing as usual ... Today it was doin the same and I noticed the Battery guage level was dropping and everything inside started to fade until all power inside was lost (no guages, radio, lights etc... ) sooo now I have it parked at home and the battery is completely dead ... I have a feeling it could be the alternator but wanted to check with you guys first .. Please Help !!! I dont wanna drive my wifes Ford to work tomorrow to work !!!

with the newer rigs that test doesn't work. any computer controlled vehicle needs the battery installed to run. the non computer rigs will certainly run without battery, but not computer rigs.

try to get the battery charged. or alot of parts stores can charge it for you, then have it tested. if it tests good, then alternator is culprit.

Hi SILVERADO1,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Try disconnecting the Alternator after you stop. Check to be sure the wire from the terminal to the alternator isn't burned up. If the battery retains it's charge with the alternator disconnected but loses it's charge with the alternator connected, then the alternator's diode plate is bad, and the alternator is sucking the battery dry when the engine is off.
