Default best way to replace fuel pump 99 1500

What is the best way to replace the fuel pump? I tried to perform this from the instruction by dropping the tank but there is no wayto get to the top hoses on the fuel pump.

Should I be able to replace this part just by dropping the tank?

Just to be clear, dropping the tank means to remove from the vehicle.
The sending unit,(pump) is in the tank and the only way to get it out is to "drop" the tank to the floor.

Here's an example of what that looks like. This might not be exactly as yours it's just to show.

The first pix is the tank with the sending unit in, the second is the sending unit assembly that has to come out, and, the third is the sending unit itself.

The pix aren't the greatest but at least you get t he idea...

It seems to be pretty common advice here from "those who have done it" that it's easier to lift off the bed than it is to drop the tank. With the bed removed, you have clear access to the tank.

I've alsoheard that it is easier to remove the bed rather than the tank. Good luck. I think I need to replace my fuel pump on a 1999 1500soon too.

I've actually done the "drop the tank" on a CUCV.
But I'm glad to see that it'll be easier to remove the bed. I've got that coming up soon for my own ride.

Thanx for the "QUOTES" RonH

Thanks to all who replied.

It was much easier to drop the tank, as I see it would be impossible to do it just dropping the tank. Lines are on top where you have no access to them or for that matter disconnect the filler tub. The new fuel pump has a different connection on it as well that needed to spliced into the original wiring harness.

Thanks again.

Troy
