Default Break light switch adjustment

I'm asking this for a friend. He replaced the break light switch on his 1988 silverado and says that the break lights will not go off now. He doesn't see any adjustment on the switch. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Likely wasn't properly installed.

Insert the the switch into the tubular clip with the brake pedal depressed until switch assembly seats on the clip. A clicking sound will be heard.

Pull the switch to the rear against the pedal stop until the clicking sound stops.

Release the brake pedal and check to make sure no click sound is heard.

Contact of the switch should take place after the brake pedal travels 1/2 to 1 inch.
