Default Broken Frame

Hi I'm Dakota (chika989) and I've already made my first mistake and posted in the wrong forum. Trying to fix that now and figure out how to post in the correct forum. Easier to rebuild an engine than figure out computer techie stuff! I'm working on a 1992 Chevy K1500 stepside that I bought new in '92. Also working on a '78 Jeep CJ5 and a 1951 ******.......but that's another website. :-) Love my '92 but she's got a major frame break and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go with gettin her back on the road. In any case, I'm looking forward to spendin time with all you Chevy guys and gals, too, if there are any others out there.

I can not move this post to the correct section frm my phone , I will move it tomorrow if someone else does not. There is no safe way to fix a broken frame other than replacing it

Think I finally got the hang of it and posted in the correct forum. Looked into buying a new frame for my girl but that would involve ALOT of work and who knows what parts I would get into once the project is under way. Right now I'm looking at swapping my 1992 Chevy K1500 stepside cab on a 1995 Chevy K1500 stepside that I've located but not at all sure that scenario is possible. The 1995 is a rollover and cab is in rough shape but the frame is solid. Looking for some help from you Chevy guys and gals. Thanks so much.

Is it cracked or completely broken apart?

When I worked in a dealership I worked right next to the frame and front end guy. I have watched him cut off damaged frames at the firewall and weld good ones on. The main thing is that it is aligned properly before and after welding. Vertical welds are frowned on in frame work, tack it up then plate it so your welds are horizontal. This is not a job for a novice welder.

Thank you for responding. :-) I'm pretty committed to either buying a new frame from GMC ($1000) or making the cab swap, switching many of my body parts to the 1995 with the solid frame. Would prefer to go with the cab swap, providing that is a viable possiblity. Either way......this project should keep me busy on the long winter nights soon coming to northeast. ;-)
