Red face Bully Dog?

I've got a 2008 Silverado w/5.3 and atrocious gas mileage... what do you recommend as far as programming chips to alleviate some of the pain? I've heard of Bully Dog and others like Power Commander....Any suggestions?

I am interested in what programmers others are using as welll. I am interested in performance tuning as well as gas mileage. I. Just purchased a new 2012 Silverado with a 5.3 liter motor. I. Also have a Pontiac G8 and use the Superchips Cortex tuner which made a world of difference after tuning it. I can enable another VIN from Superchips rather cheaply. Anyone else using the Cortex on their Silverado and if so what are your thoughts?

The tuners for a silverado don't really do much. Max 5 HP from a few dynos my buddies have done. Get a custom tune. That's 25 hp and torque number plus 2-3 mpg more.

Also before any performance add on type stuff, do the regular maintenance. 12-14 mpg is about average for a 5.3

The truck comes rigged for mileage and none of the tuners will do any better. Some of the custom hands on guys can get you little better mileage, but bottom line is heavy rigs burn more gas. So get rid of the fancy rims and bigger tires or get used to lousey mileage.

It should get a little better then 12-14 but like country 09 said try some new plugs, wires, rotor and cap, fuel filter and air filter. Chips are overpriced for what they give you. A cold air intake can give you just as much while possibly extending the life of your engine a little to. Even just putting a high flow filter on can help more then you would think.
