Bypass Ambient light sensor ??
I was wondering if I can bypass the ambient light sensor to prevent my lights turning on by themselves. I go to a campground in the summer months and it's quite annoying to not be able to use just the parking lights. Any ideas ?

For the 2000 models, you should be able to push the interior light switch off/on 4 times, and the auto headlights will be disabled until you turn the key off.

RE: Bypass Ambient light sensor ??
Unplug the ambient light sensor and put a 1 ohm resistor in place of the sensor.
The resistor will command the TBCM to turn the auto headlamps off.
The headlights will now have to be manually turned on with the headlight switch.
The 1 ohm resistor can be purchased at Radio Shack

RE: Bypass Ambient light sensor ??
Thanx ZX1100F1
I found this link (albeit for an S10),while digging around and they suggest using 2.2Kohm.

Now I'm kinda wondering which one to use.???

The 1-ohm resistor is what is used by GM to disable the autolamps on the police package vehicles but to be honest; either resistor will work just fine.

RE: Bypass Ambient light sensor ??
Thanx again for the reply.
I tried to get to it but it's one heck of a job. I had the radio out, 75% of the dash off, and, I still couldn't get to it.
Any and all suggestions will REALLY be appreciated....

Oh now that's the hard part, I don't mean to discourage you but the service manual says that Step #1 is to disassemble the vehicle then replace the ambient light sensor and reassemble the truck.

RE: Bypass Ambient light sensor ??
LOL - That's pretty funny...
I'll try and trace the wire somehow and go from there. If not, well, maybe I'll take apart the truck on a rainy weekend.
Thanx for all your help. I'll post again when I try it....

RE: Bypass Ambient light sensor ??
Anyone know which resistor to use in an '02 Silverado?
Tried both 2.2k and 1 ohm in place of ambient sensor, neither worked.
Both had headlights on with key every time!
Thanks
