Hello Chevy Fam, I recently had my engine light checked out and the code that the computer came up with was: PO430, Catalytic Converter Oxygen sensor bank 2.

I wanted to know is this something I can do myself or I need to take my truck in for servicing

Thanks that was some good info, but I need to now how to check the sensors and witch side of the engine is bank 2 I have a Vortec 5.3 2008 Silverado

 

Bank 2 is the passengers side. That code would be for the one after the Cat. You need to test it with a mulimeter or scan tool. Here's the readings
------------------Idle -----------Full Rich/Lean
Front -----------0.2-0.8 V -----R-0.9/L-0.1 V
After Catalyst -0.4-0.8 V -----Cruise-0.4-0.8 V

 

You need to replace the converter 99% of the time the cat is bad. The code po430 does not say anything about o2 sensor. The correct code definition is catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 2. How many miles are on the truck. The converters are covered under the federal emissions warranty 8 years or 80,000 miles. It is mandated by the federal government the dealer can not refuse unless you have modified the exhaust or the engine.

 

Which catalytic converter is Bank 2? Is Bank 2 the one in front of the engine or the one under the passenger side of the vehicle?

I'm going through the same problem on my 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 liter. There are two ways to go, 1. direct fit, which you remove the 2 exhaust pipes at the bottom of the exhaust manifolds and the bolts at the mid-point of your truck, where it attaches to the muffler/tailpipe. This option, replaces both cats. If one cat is bad it's likely the other will soon follow. (I'm choosing this option)
2. Cut the problem cat out and re-weld a new one in it's place. (this is more challenging for a typical DIY'er) because you likely would have to remove everything as you did in option 1 just to weld it anyway.
Just a little advice, double check everything else emission related before replacing the cats, most cats burn out due to some undiagnosed or un-repaired problem.

My 2007 Tahoe is showing the same code so I hooked it up to my dad's code reader and took a video of both the left and right sensors (both after the cat). Can anyone tell me if these readings indicate a bad cat or could it be something else? One thing to notice is that in the beginning of the video I'm idling and then towards the middle I rev to 2,500 rpm for bit. It seems like after I let off the throttle is when the readings go haywire. Here is the video:
