I bought this 2000 Z71 a few mos ago.. Runs great no problems.
I was due for a oil change. The check oil light came on... I checked it. The oil was about a quart low.. I added a quart the light went off..I got the oil changed the next day..
After having the Oil changed.. The Change Oil Light came on.. It comes on when I start the truck.. It goes off and does not come back on... Unless you restart..
Ok guys were do I start.. 2,000 with 113,000 miles on it

confused here....ALL dash lights will cycle when you start the truck....if it does not stay on then you are ok, just check it see if its low again maybe you have a leak.

There is a little process to go thru to get it to reset, but I don't recall what it is - click your heels together 3 times and say "There's no place like home." "There's no place like home."
Has to do with turning on the key without starting and stepping on the brake pedal 3 times - or something like that.
"Luke - read your Owner's Manual."

Thank you Hunter.. I should have know there were some dip sticks out there who don't even know jack sheet. Some one did email me with the right information..
As you said depress the gas pedal 3 times in 5 seconds.. That took care of my problem.
Thank all you guys..

The oil change indicator is telling you that the oil needs changing. Nothing to do with oil level or oil pressure. The computer has a algorithim that tracks engine running time and the speed that the engine is running at.

Alabama hit it on the head. The Oil Life Monitor was monitoring how you drive and telling you that the oil's lubricating qualities for the conditions you place upon your vehicle indicate that it's time for Oil and Filter.

So is it best to wait to do an oil change until this message comes on or is it still best to stick with a standard 5,000 mile schedule?
Also does anyone do oil changes based on hours of run time? If so how many hours between oil changes do you go?
