Default Code P0028 / engine light

My check engine light has come on in my 2004 Silverado 4.3. Auto zone has advised that the coolant sensor is reading that the coolant temp is too low..even though the temperature is reading normal about 160 degreesAuto zoneadvised probable cause could be low coolant, thermostat, or bad sensor..Im unsure of how common this is..so,My question is.. Has anyone experienced this issue andif so.. how was it resolved? I believe the code is P0028... Thanks

Default RE: Code P0028 / engine light

The coolant sensor setting the code is not the same sender as the one that supplies information to your temperature gauge.
The code set is most likely P0128 (not P0028).
this code will set if the engine does not reach at least 178F after an amount of time that it would take for the engine to reach normal operating temperature of 195F.
If you replaced your thermostat with a cooler one then the 195F stock unit it will set this code and cause you trouble.
I would follow Autozone's advice in the exact order they gave it to you.

Default p0128 code / coolant temp too low

I just had the same code come up when I went to Autozone. I'm going to replace the thermostat first to see if that solves the problem, usually the best solution and easiest. If this doesn't work then the sensor. Both of these parts cost $10-13 and are fairly easy to replace.
