Default Dash area (radio and other switches) burning out

Anybody got any advice on "fixing" the lights in various parts the dashboard of a 2002 Silverado LT? Over the past two years more lights that light the radio buttons and the A/C button(s) areas of the "dashboard" are blowing out. I've heard stories that it's one single "Optic Rail" that's illuminated by just a few lights (LED or otherwise). I'm not lost on the concept lighting channels, but it that's true I'm wondering how you lose illumination in such specific areas unless the rail is snapping and shifting. So I'm not buying it! Either way, I'd like to get it fixed and I'm wondering if anybody on this forum has any ideas on how to get it done (before I tear into the dashboard and radio)?

Thanks in advance...
