2007 Silverado Classic LT Extended Cab

We had a winter snowstorm over the weekend and this morning I went to open the left side rear door on my extended cab pickup. The ice had frozen the door to the frame so I pulled a bit harder on the door handle and felt something snap. The handle is still in place but it's not opening the door now.

Attached is an image of the right side (all I could find) which shows the handle I'm having a problem with (my issue is with the left side.

Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?
