Electric problems
I hav a 1984 silverado 2500. The problem is, when I turn the key nothing happens, not a sound or anything. I checked all fuses and all where ok. I have full charged battery and the lights are working. What can the problem be?
no not a singel sound. the generator was bad so I had to recharge the battery, then my friend did something wrong and short circuit the battery, after that not a sound when I turn the key. But the front lights work. Anyone who know anything about this????????

maybeeee.... it's not grounded properly. the short circuit may have cuased it. If it's still partly grounded, it could be enough for the lights to function, but notbe enoughto complete the circuit well enough to allow the starter to function. Make sure the ground cable wasn't damaged when it shorted.
Did you resolve the problem with your 84 silverado? I have an 85 K20 Suburban with similar problem. I accidently arched the solenoid and since then, I have no ignition, no "click" from starter, no power windows or radio. I do have headlights and dome lights. I pulled harness from starter and can find no visible damage to wires or fusible links from starter. Also, can find no visible damage to fusable links from junction on firewall. Cannot find any blown fuses in fuseblock under dash. I have continuity from starter wires to connector at firewall (behind fuse block). I also pulled starter/solenoid and had tested at both Kragen and Autozone. Both tested good. If fusible link bad would it be visually obvious? Are there any fuses other than at the fuse block? If the ignition switch is bad, as suggested by jcbst12, is there a way to determine this without replacing switch?
Thanks,
Shaun
