I have an 08 Silverado with the AP8 code, Parts dept at the dealer I bought the truck from informed me that in order to activate the auto start on my truck, they would have to order another module to add to what was already there..... $300.00.

its been awhile since i've done one but iirc: for the two way remote start, they change out the rcdlr module, add an extended range antenna and then u need fobs+programming.

Not for the 1 way remote start...you should just need fobs and programming.
Phone another dealer and see what they say.

Default Chevy 2013

I have a chevy Silverado 2013 1500. Told by dealer cost would be 300.00 to turn on remote start with added swicth under the hood. I bought my own key fobs offline two for 30.00 new. Was told by another tec from a small garage you can program viper remotes for extended range and he can program everything I need for 75.00 with any up grade. Cost them 50.00 to buy the upgrade from GM and charge for me is 25.00 but I'm paying for the upgrade code also. Total cost 105.00.

That is a great information.
So they will install an aftermarket hood pin switch and wire it into the factory system? Won't work without a hood ajar input.

You know I've and looked at other trucks with this feature and have not seen one switch under the hood. But it is just a matter of crossing two wires to show a shut hood. I do know all kits have them. Where are they located in silverodos I've looked at over 20 trucks havnt found one yet. And they was factory with remote start turned on.
