Default Engine choking, power loss '93 silverado

I apologize if this is in the wrong area, as I'm new here.

I'm the 'new' owner of a 1993 Chevy Silverado 1500 EXT 4WD pickup sporting the 5.7L (?) "350" and I'm discovering that most often then not after startup, my RPM drops like a bad habit and the engine threatens to stall. I've been told the EGR may be an issue on this model? If so, is this something I can do at home or would there be anything else that may cause this issue?

The vehicle has been sitting for 6 years exposed to the elements so for all I know, it may be a filter. But I've asked around between mechanics and the dealerships themselves already and I can't afford the labour rates at this time. Is there anything at all I can do at home to resolve this?

My '96 used to have a pretty low idle, even when I just stopped at a red light after running for a few miles it would sound like it was about to drop so much it would shut off...thankfully it never did. But what I found on mine, and with yours sitting, was that it was the air flow. Definitely change that filter if it's been sitting for a while, but if you clean your throttle body really thoroughly it should help too. My truck sounds and runs 10 x's better since I did that. Good luck
