Default Engine Numbers On a 1998 2500 Pick-up?

Hey guys,

I'm working on a 1998 2500 4x4 pick-up and the engine parts I'm using aren't matching up like they should.

This truck has a new owner and could have had a engine swap done before this guy got ahold of it.

I'd like to pull some numbers off of this engine so we can order the right parts, and know what we're working with. I know that the partial vin and engine code are printed on the passenger side of the block, infront of the head, but couldn't spot them from under the hood. Do I need to pull the alternator off to see them? Or what could I do to find these?

Thanks in advance.
