So, are you saying the searched helped or it didn't? Because if not, there are very knowledgable people here, and a few GM techs, they will chime in when they can if you need more help.

Having done a couple engine swaps in the past I think one of the best tips I can give you is to perform the swap so that the engine "feels" like it never left the other vehicle. This will help you in troubleshooting and make your project go much smoother. An engine swap can most easily be performed when it has been completely planned out and it also depends on what you have on hand to use. By that I mean do you have a whole donor vehicle or just an engine and transmission or just and engine, having the entire donor vehicle makes it much easier to perform the swap so that engine still "feels" at home in the other vehicle. I hope this makes sense and I have performed and consulted on a couple engine swaps and this is by far the biggest tip everybody has commented on. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Adonor truck was an option that I was concidering but I'malways worried about wreaks unless you know the trucks owner and not too many low mileage trucks or wreaks around here. I'm out in the sticks 3 hrs from the nearest city, that's why I was thinking a create engine.
So far this is what Iknow
The transmission should bolt right up with no mods
Engine mounts the same
Rad and shourds should be the same
Alternator, steerpump and other accessories should bolt right up
Intake manifold and throttle body should be the same
Computer has to be chipped for 350
Wiring should be the same
Things I don't know
Is the Torque converter ok to use
Are the Engine sensors the same

I am not sure exactly what your project is. Do you currently have a '97 with 5.0 liter and you want to just change it to a 5.7 liter? If that is the case the swap should be fairly easy to do. Like you say most every thing should bolt right up. I wouldn't be think the torque converter would be much different between the two engines, probably both of them stall around 1000-1500 rpm. As far as the computer goes I would just try to find another '97 truck with a 350 and use that computer. If you need help locating one I can get one here locally and ship it to you. Heads will be different on the 5.0 liter vs. the 5.7 but I don't think you are going to swap those anyway.
