Engine will not turn over
Hi All,
My son cranked his 1988 Silverado (5.7L, 110K), and pulled out of the driveway. After stopping at a stop sign, he pressed the accelerator, the engine rev'd, but did not move and he heard a grinding noise. He turned off the engine. When I arrived, the engine will not even turn over, although you can hear the starter turning.
Question: what could cause both symptoms? Could a bad transmission prevent the starter from turning the engine?
Thanks,
Tom

Thx for the info, after getting the truck home, got it on jacks and got the flywheel cover off.
All the teeth look in good shape. Should the flywheel turn by hand? Wondering if it was the clutch.
