Default Exhaust Question on 1996 Z71

I beginning to think my catalytic converter is stopped up on my 1996 Z. I was thinking about taking it off and punching a hole through the center of it instead of going and buying a new one, but im worried about the check engine light coming on or the O2 sensors acting up. Has any tried this with any luck??

did it but I had to put the O2 simulators ( borrowed them from my freind who races ) in there to keep the ses light off , as cheap as cats are I had it replaced and gave my buddy his O2 sims back .

If you do that, your gas mileage will drop like a rock and it won't run like it should. You are better off to replace the cat and o2 sensors.
