Default FIXED IT!!(well almost)

after a long year of throwing 3000 dollars worth of parts at my truck i decided to take it to the dealer. they found a few things that were effecting my trucks performance. One was the timing was advanced to twelve set it back to zero. The second was a broken ground strap. the third was after i cut the catlyst convertor off the o2 sensor was still in the y pipe and not up front on the manifold, tthey said that without the convertor there it would not produce enough heat and i needed to move it back up on the manifold. what do you guys think of the o2 sensor thing? The last and the main thing that was causing my bogging down problem at stops and in parking lots was my distributor magnet was in four pieces which controlled my injector timing. What is a good distributor to buy? it has no vaccuum advance. any help appreciated thanks guys!

Just buy a remanufactured oem. You will NOT gain anything by purchasing a high performance one. After spending 3000.00 you can get a original for much less. As far a the o2 sensor situation, is the o2 sensor still in the same place as it was. Are we talking about a sensor that was behind the converter or in front of it. Why did you take the converter off? It is not a race car and you really did not gain much by removing it in fact it may run better with it. It sounds to me like so one who did not know what they we doing has been hacking on your truck for a while. It is up to you if you want disclose who that was. This goes to show that it would be better to pay a QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL to diagnose your problems then throwing parts at it. To repair it properly you would be less than 3000 for sure and probably less that 1000

I just read your pm. All of these could cause your problem. I need a better explantion on the o2 sensor thing (see above). There still could be more wrong but you need to start with the obviou problems first. As far as the distributor problem if it was in such bad shape I am suprised it ran at all. You say it ran good on the highway?

The o2 sensor was in front of the convertor. It was plugged thats why i removed it about 2 years ago. It ran alright but it felt like it could of had more power. should i buy cardone or dorman? and should i buy remanufactured or new? As far as a cat convertor I am getting a new y pipe and convertor just dont know when. Thanks for your help!! Oh how much does the average mechanic charge to replace a clutch? I have done many myself just dont have time. the throwout bearing is really growling.

If the 02 is still in the same place it does not matter that the cat is gone. With that being said it is not effecting the way it runs.I have installed tons of cardone without a problem. I am pretty sure every reman I have installed was a cardone. New, reman or even used (used if you had to) all will work. There is no real benefit to new over reman. As far as the clutch every vehicle is different I will check the labor guide tomorrow to see how many hours it calls for.

oh about the o2 sensor why did the chevy dealer tell me that i needed to move the o2 sensor to the driver side manifold? Do you think the truck runs better with a catylyst convertor? better backpressure or something?

If the o2 is in the orignal spot then it is fine. I have no idea why they told you that. Do the other repairs first and see what happens.

labor guide calls for 4.2 hours. At my shop it would be 344.40
