Flowmaster??
I want to put a new exhaust on my Silverado. I want the deep rumble type sound as opposed to the loud rattle like a glass pack or cherry bomb. How do I know what exhaust to buy if I can't hear it? Looking for advice from you guys hoping to get a good answer from experience.
I've heard that the "70 series flowmaster" is good for this truck with the 283 motor.

An 80 series would be almost silent, if not silent, then it would sound stock IMO
To listen to what some exhausts sound like,

Basically the higher the number the quieter the exhaust.
A 40 series is most common. A deep sound with mid volume

do yall know if california has some weird backwards laws on what kind of exhaust you can put on your truck? i had 10's on my last truck, the one i got now is mostly stock, i would like to customize it in the near future.
It all depends on the decibels.
The 10 series I doubt would be street legal,
But then again basically every harley motorcycle is illegal
So it comes down to selective enforcement.
I think the limit on the street is 80 decibels, a lawnmower is
About 90 decibels. But as long as you are not sitting at a stoplight
Revvin the hell outa the engine, I think you'll be fine. Though some
Cities are more harsh on certain laws than others.

yes most at an idle are fine, just dont rev the **** out of it at lights or around cops (goes without saying) i have 3" dynomax on my blazer and it actually sounds nice and docile at an idle, but holy crap are they loud when pushed i woud think the same for flowmaster 10's plus when you have a regular tailpipe coming out it is much batter than having no tailo pipe, it makes the idle much mellower but it still roars when pushed, on the same blazer i had 90 deg bend right after the muffler and it was very loud at idle, then i installed tail pipes and it made the truck much more livable

I have the "50 Series" Flowmasters on my 2004 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3L V8 and they sound great!
It is throaty, but not loud enough to garner the attention of the local constabulary. They have a "70 Series" that is very quiet (almost stock) and a "40 Series" that will probably wake the dead.
Personally Flowmaster 40's or 44's
As for decibals motorcycles im pretty sure dont get tested for the decibals and cops cant bust you unless they have the meter (none of em do!) Trucks just wont pass inspection. Then again I live in mass where you cant lift pretty much over two inches haha
