Default Fuel Gauge Gone Mad on 2001 Silverado

Hey all, so I recently purchased my 2001 Chevy Silverado and i belive it was a total steal. Only bad thing is that the Fuel Gauge totally trips often! The tank could be more than halfway full but the LOW FUEL light comes on and the needle on the actual gauge drops all the way down to empty. Is this a simple fix?? What could it be?? Anybody who has had the same problem on their silverados please share how you got this fixed. Any comments or concerns are greatly appreciated

hey, buddy, I share your pain!! I just don't pay attention to it anymore. Light is gone after mid tank empty, it stabilizes. Better not paying attention to it, than lifting truck bed to get to pump/sending unit.

i am kinda amending my earlyer statement .,the dealer parts man had me confused .
three part's needed
#1 pump
#2 fuel pressure sensor
#3 sending unit (fuel level sensor) usually with the pump
looks like the sending unit is having a issue ,i know they sell them at the dealer and at aftermarket part's store's RockAuto Auto Parts maybe it is under warrenty from whoever supplyed it . i found a pic in my new gm oem service manual ,i scaned it but trying to resize it it distort's pretty bad .i dont know if they will let me post it this big .if not send me your e-mail seabee2@mchsi.com and i will send it to you .

Thanks man! This diagram rocks. The fuel pump and everything does have a lifetime warranty from ebay so i might just send it back and get a new one. Hopefully that one isnt messed up!
