wow they said to replace the fuel pump, and fuel float? ha sounds like they wanted money.

they claim its an assembly thats all in one, and normally when i go to a shop to find out information, i tell them that regardless the problem, i am not interested in them doing work for me and thst i do all my own work, so i think that rules out that bias

the sensor and float are available seperate from the pump mudule from the dealer only, as far as I know. That's probably why they said you needed the whole pump. From the sounds of it, your symptoms are normal anyways and there is no fix for it. Depending on the age of your pump, it may be more economical to replace the whole unit anyways. If the sensor costs $125 from the dealer and the whole module is 300, i'd hate to spend half of the money toward the new pump on a sensor and then have the pump crap out a month later
