Fuel issues!! HELP!!
Ok, I just traded my truck for what was a overall babied farm truck. Its a '98 Chevy 3500 w/a 350 4x4 and dual gas tanks. Only has 90k miles on it. I've put about 500 miles on it since owned now, and its died twice. First time it died I think I was out of gas, but I believe my gauge was off. After adding a little gas it fired right up. Second time it died had at least a half a tank, but read empty. It wouldn't start back, for awhile. When it did it only made it about a mile before it died again.
Heres the direction I'm going to head, from what I've read. Im certainly no mechanic, so keep in mind. At that, any advice is greatful! Today I did replace the fuel filter, seemed rather dirty. I've been attempting to get the fuel tank down now, but one of the bolts is holding me up. Kinda concerned about grinding the bolt next to the tank (something I've never done). With the fuel pump I figure if the tabs show its never been replaced & tanks dirty. I might as well replace the pump... I'm gonna dump the fuel from the front and rear tank, then blow them out.... Also plan to blow through my return air lines, and clean anything that may be around the gas cap.......
I'm hoping I don't see any rust in the tanks.... Is there any other parts I need to check out while its down, or consider replacing if its filthy dirty like the filter was? Keep in mind, dual tank. Thanks folks for reading!
