Fuel question...
Hi,
I just bought a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500hd with the 8.1 liter engine. Im almost positive that its a gasoline engine but when i opened up the fuel door today there was a sticker on the inside that said low sulfur diesel fuel only. So my question is, do i have a gas engine or a diesel engine? THanks a lot!

You should be able to tell by the engine sound lol. I can't believe that you bought a truck and dont know whether it is gas or diesel. Gas= smooth noise Diesel= Purring sound.

dude, i can gaurantee you 2 things:
1. there's no gasoline 8.1L engine on 2500 truck.
2. if it has diesel fuel sticker, and it it is not attached with chewgum, it IS diesel.

very funny discussion [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
by the way, isnīt it so, that the dieselSilverados up to 06/07has all the Duramax badge on the doors ?
and as I know, Allison1000 isonlybuilt intogether with a (Duramax) diesel ?!
See photo attached from classic Silverados.
NBS trucks have thebadge on the hood.
And yes, of course you will HEAR the difference between gas and diesel

RE: Fuel question...
the 8.1 is a GAS motor and it comes with the allison transmission, the duramax is the only diesel at the moment chevy puts in its trucks and that is a 6.6 with the allison.

i looked at a 8.1 once to buy and it was a gas motor.
however, your issue of diesel sticker on the inside of fuel door.
Could be the bed was replaced at sometime and they replaced it with a bed off a diesel truck that would have had a diesel only sticker.
I my area of western KY, that sounds like something one of my redneck buddies would do andthelast thing they would do is take the time to remove the diesel sticker.
See them all the time pour diesel fuel into their very expensive farm tractors out of a red fuel can. Should be a yellow can for diesel.

The duramax isnt the only engine that came with the allison tranny. the 8.1 also comes with it and it is a real gas engine. if you really can't tellwhat it is,take the last 8-9 digits of your vin number and call up to the dealership and they can look it up and tell you exactly wat is supposed to be in your truck.
