Personally, not a fan of glasspacks.
I would say go with true duals, and cut holes in the rear exterior panels
for the exhaust to exit.
I saw it done to a silverado and it looked pretty cool.
something kinda like this:

not a fan of glass packs either but i have a 97 like yours and i run a dual in dual out flowmaster super 44. it sounds great and after hearing MANY others i like it the best in every catagory. it has no drone though this is characteristic of flowmaster, and it has a nice rumble at idle, and a monster roar when the rpms get above about 3000 rpm.

Corsa is also supposed to be pretty good too but i dont have much experience with them, and borla is decent

if you want better city fuel mileage, remove 25% of the weight of the truck.

That's about the only way with these cars, haha.

I got a magnaflow on my truck (two in, two out - with dumps to the ground right out of the muffler), and immediately got .5mpg more or better on average.

Make sure your tires are inflated properly, air filter is clean, oil is changed regularly, stay at decent speeds on the highway (65-70 mph), go very easy on the pedal when accelerating and decelerating, possibly get a fabric tonneau cover (fiberglass is a looot of extra weight).

And I've heard good things about K&N filters adding to fuel mileage, but it is a pretty big debate.
