Hello there guys. I hope someone has an idea on whats wrong with my 4x4.
I have a 93 silverado ext 5.7L 4x4. It stared snowing up here and when I putted on it went on for 3 minutes
and from there on it won't go in. Not even the 4L 4x4. It makes the loud noise on the low but only the back tires work.
Could it ba a switch? I bought it used and it never gave me a problem till today. Just another question, how you put the 4x4 on? may be i'm doing it wrong?
Thnaksss a lot

The device that connects the front axle uses a gas element. When 4x4 is called, for the gas is heated. If the unit is boderline functional, the gas will cool enough in the snow and disengage. It could be that it was not used for so long that when you engaged it all the gas leaked out.
You used to be able to replace this unit with an all electric unit from GM. I also saw a kit one time that was purely mechanical. The mechanical kit required running a control cable into the cab. The advantage would be that you could operate in 2WD LO if you had a need to.
