Hi everyone, It's my first time on the forum and loving it. I'm from Regina Saskatchewan,Canada and have always been a big Chevy Silverado fan!
I just bought a new toy,a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew cab Z71 with 20,000 kms. While doing some online research on my 05, I found a article stating that there was two available horsepower options,a standard 295hp and a optional 310hp available on the crew cab. The dealership was no help I was wondering how I could find out what hp I have.

i dont believe the 310 HO 5.3 was aval. on crew cabs, only extended. anyways look at the 8th number in your vin if it is Z it will be the flex fuel 295hp motor. i think "b" would signal the 310 hp motor but im not exactly sure. also look in your glove box, coed Lm7 is 295hp, L59 is flex fuel 295hp, L33 is 310hp aluminum motor. LQ9 is the big daddy 6.0 which is what i have.

Thanks for your help, the 5.3 is a Lm7 so it should be 295 HP.

glad to help. now go to nelson performance and get a custom tune with 80% torque management removed and get another 18hp to the wheels (on 87) or 30 with 93 octane. it will really wake the 5.3 up.
also look at the codes and see what gears you have. gu6 is 3.42 which is whatmost those trucks came with (05-07 models)

If I'm not mistaken the '07 5.3 has 315 HP but I don't know about the '05.

 

the new body styles have 315hp (07-08) but not any years before that. just look up www.neslonperformance.com and email them or give them a call. they are very helpful.

 

Thanks, I think I'm going to look into my exhausts options first, but definitely will look into nelsonperformance in the future. Let me know how your future nelsontune goes on your 06 !

According to edmunds.com the 2005 Silverado 5.3L engine is 295hp.
