Default HT383E crate engine

installed stroker crate engine---heard valve/timing noise, took to gm shop under warranty GM performance told them to replace it and send them my old engine. They installed new one and still have the noise. goes away above 1200rpm. doesnt effect how the engine runs or anything. had this engine in for 4000miles and noise not louder or quieter. I have seen on other fourms that its something in the valve timing or piston slap or something. Anyone got any ideas or have the same engine?

maybe the valves arent set up properly it is hard to do when the engine is being built cold, maybe have a mechanic re-set the valves (or do it yourself)

I had a problem similar to this in my 327 conversion, I used a comp cam. after several "colorful" discussions they admitted that the cam was too aggressive for my app', and it will always be noisy. So now I am awaiting the "new" milder cam to install and see if it goes away

I thought about the valves, but then i also heard that some were installed one tooth off on timing and thats what does it. I dont want to tear into it due to my warranty, first times i had it in for the noise they said they couldnt hear anything. ha. As far as the cam, i know that aint it cuz its a GM performance parts engine i guess im really not too worried, drives and pulls just fine. just annoying listening to that noise at idle and especially if i leave her idle and walk away and back again.

does it have full roller, or roller tip rockers? if so then that where the noise is coming from. thick aluminum valve covers could mute it a bit

Roller cam, and lifters---standard stamped steel rockers.
