Default Hypertech Programming

I purchased a Hypertech engine programmer for my 2008 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 liter engine. My owners manual recommends regular gas, but the tuner will get me more horses and torque if I use premium gas. Except for the cost difference in the grades of gas what's the harm? I only really want to use premium while pulling a 7000# trailer then switch back to regular gas. I want to know if anyone has done this, and if so did it hurt your engine or just burn out the plugs earlier than normal?

hguilford, We do offer a performance tune in that programmer for the regular fuel. I would recommend using it. There is no harm in using either tune it will just cost you more to run the premium fuel.

I actually tried the HyperTech and it came with a booklet on the questions they ask. With mine, the only engine "tune" was if you run Premium gas. It didnt end up working, it wasnt for that year but it seemed the only way to improve the engine was by running Premium.

SilveradoShane413, Years ago with the 96-99 old engine type, we tuned for premium only on those trucks. The new vehicles have a regular and premium setting. Our tuning program will deliver excellent power gains for the trucks capable of using more economical regular octane.

Yes the newer ones im sure are deffinetly really nice. Do you still make nice ones for older vehicles too just out of curiousity? The one my cousin gave me didnt work but it was a couple years old and mines a 97' and it said good up through the 98' so.

We do offer the Max Energy but it still only offers tuning for the premium fuel.
