Besides the obvious personal problems this implies, my horn doesn't work. It's a 1998 K2500 7.4L.
My steering wheel did suffer a rather violent impact (though not accident related), and my horn blew constantly for about ten seconds before I pressed 'the right spot' of the steering wheel to get it to shut off. It hasn't worked since then.
Today I disconnected the negative battery terminal, waited a minute or two, and proceeded to pull the cover off from the middle of the steering wheel. I then took the rubbery piece off the plastic, and checked it out a bit. Here's the problem; I have no idea what I'm looking for.
1) How do I easily check to see if the horn is still functioning?
2) Is it possible that the violent impact broke the horn 'button'?
3) How do I go about fixing the 'button' if it's the problem, or do I need to replace it? The replacement part is around $45, and (seems to) include the rubbery cover, and the plastic/metal piece that affixes to the actual steering wheel.
Also, I'm assuming that my model doesn't have air bags, which is news to me; It should be in the steering wheel, if it's there, right?
Thanks for the help guys. Please help me begin tooting my horn again ;-].

same issue I have, the horn contact plate is gone, or you have a bad fuse.
the contact plate you have to get from the dealer, or go to a junkyard and find a complete column, there are articles on here for disabling the srs system and getting to the contact plate.
