I personally have never experienced premature valve train wear of failure from reducing and or eliminating back pressure - maybe it is possible.

If you want your truck really loud, you may have to part with some HP. I owned a 2002 Chevy 1500 single cab short wheel base with the 5.3 V8. Just for the fun of it, I took some 4 inch OD piping and true dual straight piped it; no cats, no mufflers. I had the pipe as straight as I could possibly get it, and let me tell ya... it was loud as ****! But with that fun came a price. I received 2 warnings and a citation for "sound violation." Plus, whenever I went to work at 4 in the morning, my neighbors would call and complain to my parents because the my truck would wake the whole street. So remember: Wide pipes, straight as possible, no cats, no mufflers=LOUD, but LOUD=trouble.
