Good points. Let me say all I plan on doing lift and tire wise is a 2" level and 285/70R17 BFG AT. It already has a dual exhaust system. Not top of the line but far better than stock so prob not worth the money to upgrade.

I dropped the truck off today and the are doing the level (with new rancho shocks), new cold air intake and super chip. Then Sat putting on the new tires.

I will prob never haul more than 2,000lbs and only haul 900lbs about 15 times a year less than 100 miles per trip.

So knowing all this what do you all think. By the way I love this truck and the 5.3L freaking rocks vs the 4.8L

It's mind over matter, if you don't mind, it don't matter.

I guess the real issues now are if you care about gas mileage, or

do much traveling on the highway.

If you care about either, I'd keep the 342s...

Hey Mathewsman, hey did you ever get that Black Bear tune? I also have a 4.8L truck and I am conversing with Justin at Black Bear. Just wondered what you thought of the custom tune?

Personally I would go with the rearend, I have dealt with the same issue, the fuel economy wasn't affected unless I had my foot in it. Not to mention, forced air induction systems are very pricey. Besides, with that bully dog programmer, if you saw a change in your mileage you could probably dial it back in, and keep the torque you wanted.\

Hope that helps,
J

Default H.P. and Torque

Hey Guys,

If you can find a 4" coupler about 2-2 1/2 " wide and about a 6" long cone air filter, you can completely eliminate all of the gay air intake stuff on the newer vortec engines and have it right there on the m.a.f. sensor. I actually fabricated a piece for mine but the coupler was still an option. I'll be posting photos as soon as I have the chance. I noticed an immediate difference in throttle response and h.p.
Just thought I'd throw that in there and try to help out.

J,

I just read in Hot Rod magazine where the went to a junkyard & bought what they thought was a 5.3,just opened the ring gap,put on twin turbos & got 1,200 hp & I forgot but I think around 800 lbs of torque.Well they got looking @ the motor again because it had flattop pistons & found out it was a 4.8.It's a good read to see what it can do.
FWIW

OTOH, I'm hoping a 4.8L, combined with a 6/speed automatic, and 342

gears, is going to be my ticket to 25+MPG for my K2500...

Default What to do?

I have an 08 Silverado with less then 7,500 miles, yes 7,500. It has a 4.8l engine, reg cab, swb. I have added a superchip, long head headers, spacers, dual magnaflow exhaust, and I use only high grade gas, plus I added a KN cold air intake, and added some new and expensive plugs. I change the oil on a regular basis. All in all, I baby "Hoss" my truck. It's a 2wd. It's obvious that I'm a hp junkie. I don't really know what I'm doing so I've come to you guys for help. I really don't want to spend $6,500 for the Edelbrock E supercharger, what else can be done to increase horsepower? I need a hp fix.

Get rid of the superchip, get a cam, converter and a real custom tune. That'll hold you over for a lil while. After that, buy a junkyard 6.0 and swap it in with your cam and converter. Do a transgo hd2 shift kit and a few other transmission goodies and run it cause after that it's supercharger or turbo time
