My 14 1500 did not have the integrated trailer brake package, was thinking i could just have it installed after the fact. But have been searching internet there have been some mixed reviews on aftermarket,if possible or having to purchase a specific harness from gm? also heard of maybe dealer installing factory setup (with a high expense of course). Anyone have any experience with the 2014 1500 with this. Think I should have held restraint and found one with it installed already!

Yes, I had the same issue and it was very frustrating. I bought a 2014 Silverado Crew Cab 1500 LT Z71 late last year and I took it to 4 different places and none could figure out how to install an aftermarket brake controller. Finally, I contacted another local Chevy dealership and they were able to order parts to custom make a wiring harness. It cost about $300 but it was well worth it. I've pulled my travel trailer 4 or 5 times since then and have had no issues. Trust me, I was a little worried at first but it works just fine. I would think since the truck has been out a year now they would have some after market harness available. Why they just don't put the brake controller system in the 1500 series is beyond me. Hope that helps!

Good deal, figured they would something by now. What weight are you pulling? Was thinking a 25' travel trailer around 7k gross weight. Will be looking into it in a few weeks, Thanks for your time.

Right now my current trailer weighs about 5,500lbs (gross) and it pulls just fine. I can pull it 75 MPH down the highway if I want to. I'm wanting to upgrade and the one I want gross out at about 7K. I think the truck will pull it just fine. I live in Texas and it's pretty flat and I don't ever tow it far (around 100 miles). I wouldn't try to tow it across country though, or thorough the Rocky Mountains.
