Default Instrument Panel Help, Please!

I have an intermittent problem with the instrument panel cluster in my 09 Silverado LT (4 door). The instrument panel frequently fails to "come on" or if it comes up when starting the vehicle it goes black again within 5 seconds or so. I mean completely black, no lights, no gauges, nothing. Seems to be worse in the morning than in the afternoon. More likely to work later in the day as the day warms up. All fuses are okay. My local, trusted mechanic, said he does not know what the problem is and suggested I take it to the dealer. I would appreciate some ideas before opening my wallet. Other info: about 52,000 miles on the truck, 4WD, has an aftermarket A/V entertainment system with navi. Thanks.

the dealer will just replace the cluster.

other than checking for power to the ipc or codes in the cluster itself; nothing else can be done.

Thanks for the response. Is there anything I should be aware of when speaking with the dealer? I don't know enough yet to know if I am being taken advantage of...

there might be an extended warranty coverage on the cluster. Older years had a 10year policy, the newer style like yours may not. Ask if that applies.
